How to grow strawberries

For growing strawberries, the first thing is to choose to choose a place on the site where, in fact, strawberries will be planted.

If we talk about the soil, then we can say with confidence that strawberries loves black soil and dark gray in composition of soils. However, if there are no them on the site, then this is not very scary, since this berry will grow on any other soil. Unless the crop will be slightly less. However, an important condition for choosing the soil is that groundwater should lie at a depth of at least 60 centimeters. It is also important that your berries grow not in the lowland or on a steep slope, but on some even and sunny surface, since otherwise there is a risk.

At the same time, every 3-4 years it is better to find another place for your berries: every new year the likelihood of plant disease increases in one new year.

The next step will be arranged riders for your strawberries. How the beds should be dependent on the soil. If the site is in the lowland and groundwater lies quite high, then the height of the ridge should be at least 35 cm. If the soil is sandy or sandy loam, then there is no need for high ridges: 10 centimeters will be enough. The width of the beds of the soil does not change: the maximum width should be 100 centimeters.

Now the soil should be fertilized. Loamy soils must be mixed with manure mixed with peat (for 1 sq. m. soil 10 kg of manure). If the soil is sandy, then for 1 sq. meter will need 12 kg. Mineral fertilizers consisting of nitrogen and phosphorus should also be applied. Simultaneously with mineral fertilizers, it is not good for making dolomite flour, thereby reducing the acidity of the soil, which will help the roots absorb beneficial substances better. And in no case do potted fertilizers: the chlorine contained in them can poorly affect the growth of strawberries.

Dry all the ridges into a depth of 25 centimeters, remove the roots of weeds, beetle larvae, loosen the soil, pour the ridges abundantly. Everything, now you can start landing strawberries.

So, landing. Strawberries are planted with seedlings in late July. Although, of course, if desired or necessary, it can be planted in the spring and autumn too. The seedlings should be already formed, have 2-3 leaflets, a developed root system and heart. Plant strawberry bushes at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other, the distance between the rows should be back down 60 centimeters. Plant carefully: the heart should not go into the ground, but it should not rise much either, the roots should not bend. Planting plants, pour them with water. Remember: if you plant strawberries correctly at the end of June, then by winter it will already have a powerful root system that will help the bush to survive in the cold.

Everything, the most difficult process is completed. Now it remains only to take care of the berries so that they grow and enjoy. Water just planted bushes a little, but often (2-3 times per day). This will help them take root better. When the plants get stronger, the watering mode should be changed: with not very dry weather, watering is enough to carry out once a week.

If strawberry landing was carried out at the end of June, then somewhere in mid-August the soil should be loosened to a depth of approximately 5 centimeters. If you want, then in the fall in October, make mulching the beds with a peat with a layer up to 5 centimeters. Before winter cooling, the bushes of strawberries should be covered with spruce branches.

Strawberries usually give a good harvest for the second year of growth, so do not be discouraged if there are few fruits in the first year. If you do not forget to water the bushes in time and make sure that they do not hurt anything, then a delicious and sweet berry will appear in your garden soon and in your garden will appear.
