Not only reliable walls, but also an attic with an insulated roof allow you to maintain heat in the house. And if the standard insulation used for attic premises is sufficient here, then when arranging the attic, the requirements for thermal insulation increase.
Since there is only a roofing cake laid on rafters between the room of the attic and the external environment, there is a need for additional insulation. DIY insulation from the inside with your own hands – the process is not complicated. That’s just in order to fulfill it correctly, one should take into account some features of the physical laws of nature.
No matter how the room warms up, in any case, warm air has the ability to rise up, creating a thermal layer under the ceiling. And in an ordinary living room this would be enough for comfort. But not in the attic.
What should be the roof?
The roofing on the inside is the ceiling of the attic, the outside is in contact with the air of the street. Therefore, in the cold season, the roof is “the border between heat and cold”. With a large difference in temperature from the inside and outside, condensate will naturally be collected, which, with a large presence of it, causes increased humidity in the room and mold formation.
Therefore, insulation of the attic should be performed inside the room with insulating material, which has two protective layers. It is the waterproofing layer of insulation that should be directed inside the room, and vapor barrier – out. Recommended material as insulation – panels made of mineral wool having the necessary protective layers. You can also make the attic insulation from the inside with your own hands with a foam, which is already a good hydro- and heat insulator.
Whatever material you use, the principle of styling remains unchanged. Insulating insulation is laid in the niches between the rafters, if they have enough thickness. Otherwise, the bars should be filled on the rafters, to which the insulation will be attached. The energy audit will ultimately allow us to judge the results.
Lay the insulation material at a certain distance from the roof to ensure a sufficient flow of air between the roof and the insulating layer. The absence of such ventilation is another reason for the formation of mold. From the side of the attic, the insulation “drape” the profile, lining, drywall, etc.p., which will give the room more comfort inherent in residential premises. The attic should be insulated completely – from the floor and along the entire area of the roof dome.
