RSHP’s large-scale convention center in China

British studio RSHP has unveiled a design for the Zhongyuan International Convention Centre complex. The centre will have a nearly two-kilometre-long elevated section and sixteen exhibition halls.

The project is planned for construction in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone (ZAEZ) in Henan, adjacent to an existing convention centre and park.

The total area of the centre will be an impressive 527,000 square metres, with each exhibition hall measuring around 12,500 square metres, spread along a 1.7-kilometre axis. The entrance to the space will be located on the upper level, with halls, restaurants and public spaces located on the lower level, along a pedestrian walkway.

Arched roofs will cover a walkway for visitors, leading to a hotel located at its end. The design features a wave-like corrugated roof, the shape of which is inspired by the local landscape. “The Zhongyuan Convention Centre in China will combine cutting-edge technology with traditional cultural elements to create a space that meets functional needs and is a showcase for innovation,” says RSHP partner Richard Paul.
