Multi-level school campus in China

Architects from Remix Studio have unveiled a large-scale campus for Futian Middle School in Shenzhen, which they designed based on the “city within a city” principle.

The buildings and infrastructure facilities are spread over an area of over 120,000 square meters and are connected by a network of paths and bridges. With its original geometry, the project challenges the typical approach to the construction of educational institutions.

The school is located on a concrete podium and faces the street from the west. Outdoor classrooms for students and the general public, sports grounds, and an exhibition space were built on the territory around the campus. A playing field and a running track were located on the raised podium, accessible both from the street for city residents and from the student dormitories. According to the architects, in this way they “freed the school from the shackles and made it open to all city residents.”
