The Scandinavian style in interior design is one of the most popular. It is suitable for any room, does not require large material costs and gives scope for creativity.
We will tell you what elements Scandi consists of and suggest solutions for different houses and apartments.
The advantage of Scandi is that it does not require expensive finishing materials and complex decorative solutions. A win-win idea for decorating the walls of an apartment in Scandinavian style is to level them with putty or plasterboard and paint them in a shade of white or gray. This will be a suitable background for creating a home wall gallery of paintings, photos, herbariums and drawings.
As an option, part of the wall in the room can be covered with wood. For a wooden panel, both natural wood – planken or furniture board made of 20-30 cm wide lamellas – and its imitation – laminate or MDF panels – are suitable. In a country house, you can decorate the entire walls with wood and use them as a background for paintings and decor.
Most often, Scandinavian interiors use wood species from northern and mid-latitudes: pine, spruce, birch or oak. It is better not to imitate exotic species and not to install panels “under mahogany” and “under wenge” – this will ruin the feeling of simplicity. The most organic solution would be ordinary wood with a pronounced texture, possibly with traces of knots, covered with colorless matte varnish, oil or paint.
